Titans of Texas w/ Casey Claiborne

Ep. 15 - SPECIAL F1 EPISODE: Red Racer books teaching kids science and mechanics of racing

Episode Notes

What happens when a lifelong love of cars, a newfound passion for Formula 1, and a desire to share that excitement with your children come together?

Andy Amendola, founder of Red Racer Books, joins Casey Claiborne for a special Formula 1 edition of Titans of Texas to discuss his journey from advertising and brand strategy to creating a children's book series dedicated to motorsports.

With Austin's Circuit of the Americas serving as one of America's premier Formula 1 destinations, the conversation explores how the sport's growing popularity is creating new opportunities for entrepreneurs, families, and racing enthusiasts.

Andy shares his upbringing in Miami, his family's roots in Uruguay, and the unexpected career path that eventually led him into advertising. After spending two decades working with major brands and developing expertise in marketing and brand strategy, he began reconsidering his career priorities following the birth of his children.

Seeking greater flexibility and more time with his family, Andy transitioned away from full-time corporate advertising and started a consulting business with his wife. During the pandemic, he discovered Formula 1 and quickly became fascinated by the sport's technology, science, and international appeal.

But when he searched for children's books about Formula 1 to share with his kids, he discovered that many available titles were outdated or failed to capture the excitement of modern racing.

That discovery sparked the idea for Red Racer Books.

Andy explains how attending his first Formula 1 race at Austin's Circuit of the Americas in 2021 inspired him to pursue the idea, eventually leading to his first book, The ABCs of Racing.

The conversation also explores the challenges of becoming an independent publisher, from finding illustrators and printers to launching a Kickstarter campaign and building an e-commerce business.

Andy discusses why he chose self-publishing over traditional publishing, how he attracted nearly 300 Kickstarter backers, and what he has learned about building a business around a personal passion.

From the excitement of Formula 1 to the realities of entrepreneurship, this special episode of Titans of Texas highlights the creativity, persistence, and family inspiration behind Red Racer Books.

Join Casey Claiborne and Andy Amendola for a conversation about racing, fatherhood, children's literature, and turning an unexpected passion into a business.
